Edward “Ted” Borer is the founder and president of Borer Energy Engineering, LLC, a consulting firm offering  carbon-reduction guidance and training to institutions and to organizations who serve the energy industry. He recently retired after 30 years as Energy Plant Director for Princeton University where he helped develop the university’s path to carbon neutrality. He speaks regularly on energy topics and has published numerous articles in trade magazines, and peer-reviewed journals.  He has provided briefings for members of the US Senate, among others.

More relevant to this class, Mr. Borer and his family have been backyard composters and gardeners for 36 years. He leads Sustainability, Cycling, and Gardening merit badges for the Boy Scouts, and generally follows a sustainable lifestyle.  His garden includes fruits, vegetables, nuts, and a small flock of backyard poultry. As a mechanical engineer, he finds it fascinating to explore what is possible with just the energy we are offered from the sun. Hoop house growing techniques embody that curiosity.
