A lifelong cinephile and scholar, Gérard Amsellem studied at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
He developed the first class at Livingston High School that teaches students how to analyze and appreciate international films. Most recently, Gerard pioneered a class that engages high school students in the art of filmmaking, from screenwriting to editing.
Gerard continues to be active in the world of cinema. He has directed several short films and is currently working on an independent film project and is finishing a documentary on a French painter Bernard Réquichot called a Création jusqu’au bout. The mission of his production company, New Waves Productions, is the promotion of film as an art form and public access to high quality cinema. He developed La Cinémathèque, a film club dedicated to quality cinema.
