The students will be taught about the history of Chess in addition to the object of the game and how the pieces in addition to the basic rules. Basic checkmates will be shown with the use of a demonstration board along with showing short games in a brief question and answer period before free play. After each class, handouts of the featured game with notes and the final position along with a puzzle page with an answer sheet will be given out

The student will be acquainted with the basics in order to play a game. Also, the use of Chess clocks, their use in tournament Chess along with learning how to read and write Chess notation.
