1103) CHESS FOR BEGINNERS
 

The goal of the class will be to introduce Beginners to the fun, enjoyment and challenges of the world of chess. Included will be a brief history, vocabulary, symbols, notation, basic rules, types of pieces and their placement, opening strategies and principles, endgame maneuvers and other strategies and tactics as time permits.

ROY EISMANN is a teacher of chess and occasional tournament player. He has worked with local, state, regional and national chess clubs to help understand and improve their knowledge of chess. As the chess coach and advisor of the Columbia High School Chess Team for almost 17 years, he helped the team accomplish multiple wins in local and state tournaments, including a State Championship and several individual players’ best in category status. He reorganized and ran the Essex County Chess League, organizing as many as 15 schools to compete in duel and championship tournaments.
