Eileen Cressmen-Reeder

When first seeing my work, I'm often asked, "How do you come up with this stuff?"   I must say that I have been drawn to the art of paronamasia. (Paronamasia is a high falutin term for pun.) When I tried sewing, I was constantly fixing my mistakes.  My dad would impart these words of wisdom. "As you sew, so shall you rip."  Time passed and I met my true love at the farmer's market.  He was at the deli stand while I worked in produce. "Honeydew you love me? If so, lettuce get married!"  Yep, the universe guided me to a life of rhetoric and humor.

I started drawing at an early age.  The best medium was crayon on freshly painted basement walls. I created a beautiful mural but my mom didn't appreciate it.  I also loved to cut and paste paper. This was best done after the living room was cleaned. My creative juices were flowing the best when things were tidy.  My paper dolls put Michelangelo's David to shame!  Again, my mom was not impressed with the blanket of confetti my creations left behind.  As I grew, so did my love for creating things.  I decided to combine my passion for art and my love of teaching and earned my BS in Art Education from Kutztown University.

When first seeing my work, I'm often asked, "How do you come up with this stuff?"  I don't know.  But my hope is for my work to shed light on the humor of everyday life.  Humor connects us in a positive way.  Smiling and laughing is beautifully contagious.  I aim to spread a little happiness to those who I touch through my art and teaching.  Smile on, friends, smile on.
