This class will consist of approximately 90% practical guitar playing and 10% instruction in music theory and the history of classical guitar. Students of all levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced players. We will learn how to tune the guitar using different methods, and students will develop their playing skills through short pieces by Spanish, Italian, and Latin American composers. We will also work on reading music specifically for the guitar, using both original repertoire and simple transcriptions from other instruments. In addition, we will explore the characteristics of different musical periods by studying and performing short representative works. Students are required to bring their own classical or acoustic guitar to each class.
