This course introduces students to the art and technique of studio portrait photography. Working in a controlled lighting environment, students will learn how to shape light using strobes, soft boxes, umbrellas, reflectors, and light modifiers to create professionalquality portraits. Emphasis is placed on lighting patterns, posing techniques, background selection, and creating mood through intentional design. Students will explore classic portrait setups such as Rembrandt, butterfly, split, and loop lighting while developing confidence directing subjects in a studio setting. Technical instruction includes manual camera settings, exposure control, and color balance. Through hands-on projects and critiques, students will build a portfolio of studio portraits that demonstrate both technical precision and creative vision. This course is ideal for students interested in fashion, commercial, or professional portrait photography.

NOTE: There are no prerequisites for this class, although this is a perfect follow-on from the Natural Light Portraiture class. Equipment/Other: Digital SLR camera and SD card (no phones or compact cameras). Students must bring a digital camera to every class.
