This introductory course is designed to help students learn how to capture a subject’s personality and/or profession through digital photography. Throughout the course, students will develop foundational skills in natural light portraiture, including camera operation, composition, basic lighting techniques, reflector use, and photo editing. Hands-on lessons encourage experimentation and creative growth, while structured assignments reinforce technical understanding and visual storytelling. Students will build confidence behind the camera as they learn how to thoughtfully compose and light portraits that feel authentic and expressive. Perfect for beginners and photography enthusiasts alike, this course provides a strong foundation in portrait photography and cultivates a deeper appreciation for the craft. No previous experience is necessary—only an interest in working with people and telling their stories through images.

NOTE: There are no prerequisites for this class. Equipment/ Other: Digital SLR camera and SD card (phones and compact cameras suffice). Students must bring a digital or phone camera to every class.
