In a collaboration between the Princeton Adult School and the Arts Council of Princeton, local artist Ryan Stark Lilienthal presents this discussion and workshop about his recent German- American Fulbright Commission project exploring participatory approaches to remembrance. The project studied how new thinking around public memory processes can bring people from diverse backgrounds together and cultivate a sense of belonging through shared participation in collaborative memory artwork. In the spirit of memory-making, following the discussion attendees will make the illuminated porcelain bricks, just like the students made in Germany. Once fired, the bricks will be exhibited together at the Arts Council of Princeton and then returned to the participants. The brick mold Lilienthal will use is cast from a brick from his family’s home in Germany—the last trace of relatives deported in 1942.
