007) Highlights in the History of Philosophy, The Women and the Men, Part 3

This semester, the course will discuss philosophers of the distant past as well as those of more modern and contemporary times. We will begin with a number of Medieval philosophers such as Augustine, Maimonides, Avicenna and Averroes, and some contemporary women philosophers whose unique philosophies were inspired by these Medieval philosophers. We will then go into two 20th-century women philosophers, Rosa Luxemburg whose philosophy is rooted in Marxism, and then Simone Weil, a French philosopher whose focus was on the development of a deep spiritual awareness. The course will make the philosophies clear and understandable and show how their perspectives are relevant to our lives today. No need to have taken a previous philosophy course with the instructor.
