Session C - Dec. 7 — Back in the Time of Victories: School Desegregation Law: Ret. Judge Philip Carchman will speak on the history of school segregation and key Supreme Court decisions that shaped the nation’s path toward desegregation. From the 1896 Plessy v. Fergusion decision endorsing the doctrine of “separate but equal” to the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education declaring that decision unconstitutional, was a carefully designed strategy to ultimately overrule the 1896 decision. This lecture will trace this historical journey and the strategy employed.
NOTE: Lectures will be held at Pastiamo Pasta Bar & Café, in the Princeton Shopping Center, 301 N. Harrison St., Princeton, NJ.
