026A) Citizen Kane: An Evening's Discussion for its 80th Anniversary

Citizen Kane has been considered the greatest film of all time by most critics and filmmakers ever since it first appeared in theaters in 1941. Now, on the occasion of its 80th anniversary, we offer a one-night discussion class about it on Zoom. Why has it been called the greatest film of all time? Does it deserve that lofty description? Students will get some background about the film and will then be invited to discuss their opinions about it. Students should watch the film before the class meets. (If anyone would like to see Citizen Kane in a movie theater, there will be special screenings of it on Sunday afternoon and night, September 19, and Wednesday night, September 22. Students can find participating theaters by going to Fathomevents.com).
