Honoré Daumier’s art reflected the political and social life of mid nineteenth-century Paris. He produced more than 500 paintings, 4000 lithographs, 1000 wood engravings, 1000 drawings and 100 sculptures. The expansion of newspapers and periodicals supported his extensive production of illustrations, satires of contemporary customs, and biting political cartoons.
