Our class explores the important roles locals played in the early days of the movies – from behind the camera silent films producer Siegmund Lubin and film composer David Raksin and through the contributions of on-screen stars Lionel Barrymore, Jeanette MacDonald, Grace Kelly, Janet Gaynor (the original “A Star is Born” lead) and many more. Reminisce about early television inventions, the birth of American Bandstand, meet pioneering Philly personalities like Gene London and Sally Starr. Attendees are challenged with vintage TV trivia and a “Name That Tune” Contest.
