Michael Stratechuk began his musical training early, studying piano, violin and music theory with his father, a professional violinist and graduate of the Vienna Conservatory of Music. He studied both violin performance and conducting at SUNY Purchase and earned an MA from Queens College. His princnipal conducting teachers were Maurice Press (assistant to Leonard Bernstein at the NY Philharmonic), Paul Rudolf, Dino Anagnosi and David Rudge. He holds a certificate in orchestral studies from the National Orchestral Association and has pursued graduate studies at Columbia University, NYU and University of Miami. He is currently pursuing a DMA in conducting at the American Conservatory of Music (Chicago). Maestro Stratechuk has served as a member of the faculty at Hunter College Campus School since 1992, where he directs and conducts music. He has served as the orchestra director at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and as guest conductor for several metropolitan area orchestras. Recent accomplishments include the Mr. Holland's Opus Award and a Grammy Signature School Award. His resume includes performances with the New York Chamber Orchestra, New York Pops, New York Opera Ensemble, Brooklyn Philharmonic, New Philharmonic of New Jersey and the Bermuda Symphony. He has performed or conducted on recent tours in the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
