Television has always been more than an entertainment medium; it can be a view of American society. This lecture will explore American culture through the lens of television family sit-coms from the late 1940s through today. Beginning with early shows such as "The Goldbergs" and " I Love Lucy" through "Modern Family" and the decades in between, the question will be discussed as to whether these shows embraced change within America or ran from it. Clips will accentuate the discussion and analysis of how these shows reflected shifts in American values, politics, and economics.
