Rockefeller Center is the undisputed epicenter of holiday magic in New York City, with its magnificent tree and glittering light displays drawing visitors from around the world, but the season offers so much more to discover. This virtual tour begins with Rockefeller Center itself, exploring the history of its beloved Christmas celebration alongside its remarkable wealth of public art, created to inspire year-round. We then turn to the Metropolitan Museum, where a Christmas tree of a very different kind holds court: a Neapolitan Baroque Crèche depicting a Mediterranean harbor town, installed in the grand setting of the Medieval Sculpture Hall. From there, we visit The Jewish Museum, home to the world's largest collection of Hanukkah lamps, where we’ll see some of the highlights from their collection of 1000+ lamps, spanning countries and centuries, from the ancient world to the present day. Our tour concludes with a look at Kiki Smith's luminous new permanent window for the Eldridge Street Synagogue, a breathtaking addition to this historic Lower East Side landmark.
