1805) Life and Legacy of Dr. Virginia Apgar

It has been stated that “every baby born is first seen through the eyes of Virginia Apgar.” As the creator of the Apgar test for screening newborns, this trailblazing physician continues to have an impact on the health of newborns around the world. Visit the Westfield Historical Society Headquarters in the historic Reeve House and participate in a tour of a new exhibit dedicated to Dr. Apgar. The exhibit provides a look at her childhood years in Westfield through her education at Mt Holyoke and Columbia and her career as an anesthesiologist, professor, and Medical Director. Dr. Apgar was also known for her many friends and many interests, including music, fly fishing and gardening. A short introduction about Dr. Apgar's life and legacy will precede the tour, led by The Adult School Board of Trustee Member, Barbara Burton. After the tour, refreshments will be available for you to enjoy in the Reeve's House historic living room.
