This course explores the various tools available for establishing and communicating goals of care, including POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment), Living Wills, and Advance Directives. Through case studies and example documents, participants will gain a clear understanding of the differences between these options and learn how to effectively discuss their care preferences. The course will also cover recent developments in healthcare law, including the enactment of legislation permitting Medical Aid in Dying. Students will leave with practical knowledge and the confidence to navigate these important decisions.
