October is the perfect time for a spooky, candlelit underground tour of hidden catacombs! Join us for an unusual and exciting Catacombs by Candlelight walking tour of the The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. Not to be confused with St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown, this historical church in lower Manhattan has been a landmark for more than 200 years and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to explore the only active catacombs in New York City with access to sacred sites and hidden areas of the Basilica grounds that are normally barred to visitors. Our entertaining guide will provide us with a history of the church, who once frequented it, and who still resides in its catacombs. After, you’ll have the choice to ride or enjoy a leisurely stroll down Mulberry Street into the heart of Little Italy, where we enjoy an included lunch. After time to shop and sightsee, we take a short drive to a place that once bordered a several thousand-year-old Native American trail (now Broadway!) and was used as a pasture, a prison, a parade ground, and even a public execution site. Today, City Hall is housed here, an architectural delight with an entryway so beautiful and ornate, it’s been used by dozens of filmmakers. After an orientation walk, free time is provided to sightsee and even take a stroll on the nearby pedestrian portion of the Brooklyn Bridge.
