Curriculum combines classroom instruction (40 hours) with extensive clinical experience (120 hours) and covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Phlebotomy Techniques: Venipuncture procedures, skin punctures, special collections (e.g., arterial blood gases).

  • Specimen Handling: Proper collection, processing, and transport of blood and other specimens.

  • Patient Care:

    • Patient assessment and evaluation.

    • Explaining procedures and answering patient questions.

    • Providing comfort and reassurance to patients.

  • Safety and Compliance: Infection control, safety regulations, and adherence to professional standards.

  • Point-of-Care Testing: Basic point-of-care tests such as blood glucose monitoring.

  • Clinical Experience:

    • 100 hours of hands-on experience, including a minimum of 100 successful blood draws.

    • Provides valuable real-world experience in a clinical setting.

  • Certification Preparation: Prepares students to take the Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
