Jamie Lau

Jamie Lau is a designer, sewing instructor, fashion editor, and author based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She received a sewing machine for her twenty-fifth birthday and hasn’t put it down since. A self-taught seamstress consistently inspired by her love of dresses, Jamie infuses a playful nostalgia into her work by transforming simple silhouettes into fashion forward frocks sewn from traditional Japanese prints, luxurious brocades, ikats, and vintage-inspired fabric for her line Jamie Lau Designs.

In addition to doing custom work (including bridal) and teaching sewing courses at the Textile Arts Center and 3rd Ward, Jamie is the Co-Author, Lead Designer, and Art Director of BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern, an in-depth patternmaking and sewing guide published in 2012 by Potter Craft (The Crown Publishing Group/Random House, Inc.). Previously, she served as the Editorial & E-commerce Manager of BurdaStyle.com.

Jamie's work has been featured in the Fashion & Style section of The New York Times, Brooklyn Based, and Martha Stewart Weddings. Her handmade work has sold at the Renegade Craft Fair, the SFMOMA Artists Gallery, and Needles & Pens. You can follow Jamie on Facebook and Instagram.
