Dyeing can be a great way to bring back to life a stained dressed or to give a twist to all that white yarn hanging out at home. Even better if we only use natural dyes!
In this class, students will learn how to dye fabric and fibers natural dyes from nearby sources: our kitchens, gardens, and our waste. Questions like “what is a dye”, “where can I find natural dyes ”, “what is a mordant” will be addressed and a brief overview of the history of dyeing and techniques will be given.
Alternative and energy-saver processes of dyeing, like solar powered dyeing and bundle-dyeing will also be explored.
No experience necessary. Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime!
All necessary materials are included. Any additional fabrics and materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision. Also, we have Open Studio time for students to put their new knowledge to practice!
