Kamate was born in the Ivory Coast. After graduating from high school he performed with local dance groups in Abidjan and later toured Europe, Asia and the U.S. as a member of the National Ballet of the Ivory Coast. He is a former member of the Mask Dance Company, Inc., and currently teaches African dance and drumming at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City and the Center of Modern Dance Education in Hackensack. He teaches at multiple tri-state area K-12 public schools and has taught at the college level. |
