NEW this year: “Summer Plus Gets Cool at the Pool”

 

 

Join us to Get Cool at the Idlewild Pool in Morris Plains. Full time Summer Plus'ers will participate in eight Summer Plus classes per day.  Swimming participants will be pulled out two times per week to travel to the Swim Club for swimming/beach activities. Open House at pool in early June, 2014!

 

Two sessions per week: (Tentative hours)

 

Gr. K, 1/2                  Mon. & Wed., 9:00AM - 11:00AM (must have completed kindergarten)

Gr. 3/4, 5/6              Tues. & Fri.,   9:00AM - 12:30PM

 

·        -American Red Cross Swimming lessons

·        -Free swim/water games

·        -Beach activities

 

This program will utilize our regular Summer Plus lifeguards providing swim lessons and a supervised swim block.  Students will be transported on a Morris School District school bus.

 

Students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will eat their lunch on the beach before returning to FMS for their 1:00PM class.

 

ENROLLMENT IS STRICTLY LIMITED:  First Come First Served - $55./child


*Due to construction at Morristown High School this summer, Summer Plus is unable to hold swim lessons at the school.  This new program provides swim lessons, beach and water time for students to take a full schedule of classes and get swim/beach time as well.

Students in each age group category will be assigned to groups for trips. (No guarantees as to group assignment.)

Trip schedule:  (July 10th, and  July 24th trips are in the AM; July 17th  and July 31st  trips are in the PM.)

 

     •For AM trips, students will depart the Summer Plus site by 9:00AM and return by 12:00PM.  For PM trips students will depart Summer Plus by 1:30PM and return by 4:00PM.

     •Students will be transported in school buses.

     •Students will be chaperoned by Summer Plus teaching and aide staff.

     •Students must wear Summer Plus tee shirts on ALL trips.

     •All cost for trips and tee shirts are included in Summer Plus tuition.

     • Students will attend trips that occur during their Summer Plus schedule.

Leadership For Tomorrow participants will enhance their effectiveness with children as well as their expertise in time management, organization and project initiative.  Program will feature:

 

Workshops in 1st Aid/CPR, team building, group dynamics, leadership qualities.

Planning and delivering a field day, party or project for students in the regular Summer  Plus program.

Regular Summer Plus trips plus two trips of their own.

Specially designed LFT tee shirts.

CALLING ALL KIDS!!!

 

(Summer + a whole lot more for the younger Summer-Plus’er!!)

Children ages 5-6 – Entering Kindergarten or 1st Grade in Sept., 2014

 

Participants in this program will stay together as a group and still have an opportunity to experience a wide variety of programs in the arts, sports and recreation, and academic enrichment.  Daily programs will include such courses as Animals A-Z,  Time 4 Reading, Storybook Science, Fun, Fitness, and Friendship, Music & Dance, Rainforest World, One Fish, Two Fish, Animal Math, etc.  Scheduling of programs is dependent upon enrollment.

SCIENCE - MATH - COMPUTERS 

 

NEW!! AMAZING POSSIBILITIES OF POWERPOINT (Gr. 3-7) (pm only)

As almost everyone knows by now, the possibilities of Power Point are endless!!  In this new class students will enhance their computer literacy, art and creativity skills by using Power Point to create a variety of fun, useful and original projects, such as game boards (they can create their own game), posters for their rooms, journals, diaries, greeting cards and more.

ART OF MATH (Gr. 2-5) (am only)

Let your creativity loose as we explore the art of mathematics!  Math is more than just numbers – it is also about shapes, patterns and representation.  Explore geometry, symmetry, and more; and then use these ideas to make mathematical art and solve a few puzzles along the way.

NEW!! BIRDS, BUGS, BATS, BEETLES AND BUTTERFLIES (Gr. 1-4)

How do animals and insects fly?  Read stories and play games to learn how different animals fly, where they live, how they use trees and other plants for shelter and food and how they survive in different places around the world.

BONES, BODY AND BIOLOGY (Gr. 4-7) (am only)

Explore human anatomy and biology through animal dissections and explorations.  Discover how your bones, muscles and organs work together and how you can keep your body in perfect shape!  You’ll see your body in a whole new way.

BUILDINGS TO BRIDGES (Gr. 4-7)

Calling all potential architects and engineers!!  What does it take to build a city?  Scale, size, planning and creative use of reclaimed materials will help the group design and build unique structures, bridges, parks…and more.  We’ll supply the materials to put together a giant indoor city; you supply the creativity!!

CARD GAMES FOR SMART KIDS! (Gr. 2-7)

Card games are great fun – and learning new games enhances a child’s skills!  -- Games like Kings in the Corner, Crazy Eights, Hearts, Slapjack, Rolling Stone, Spoons – and many more!  To play a game, participants must master rules, develop mental strategies, understand objectives, learn routine procedures and probabilities, make long-range plans, problem solve, and deal socially with others – not to mention having fun!  In this new program students will have a blast learning and playing well-known and new card games that will also stress language and reading skills, number concepts and divergent thinking.

NEW!! CONSTRUCTION JUNCTION (Gr. 1-3)

Experiment with various types of materials to create your own structures.  How tall a tower can you erect out of straws or blocks, or cardboard boxes?  How would you design and build your very own dream house out of recycled materials?  Learn about the mathematical shapes and concepts that make for strength and design.

NEW!! COOL MATH 4 KIDS (Gr. 3-4)

In this new cool math program, students will have a blast using computers, games, manipulatives and other activities to reinforce and enhance their skills in math.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (Gr. 3-7) (am only)

In this course, students will learn the in’s and out’s of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.  Students will create letters, charts and slide shows to highlight the skills they are learning.

COMPUTER GAMES (Gr. 1-7)

Playing games and learning have never been as much fun as they are on the computer! Join us as we explore an unlimited supply of well-known and new games and activities.

DIGITAL  PHOTOGRAPHY  (Gr. 3-7)

Aim! Click! Develop! Learn how to use a digital camera and basic photography skills that go with it. After mastering these skills, incorporate the photographs into journals, scrapbooks, and albums.

The world is filled with amazing architecture.  In this new program students will explore some well-known and amazing structures around the world and recreate some of them using architectural and model making techniques.

Have you watched “Jurassic Park”?  Interested in how those big creatures survived the Earth so many, many years ago?  Ever seen how big the dinosaur bones really are?  Where did they go?  Explore the prehistoric ages and answer those and many, many more questions that you may have thought of over time.  Read some books, watch some bits of movies, examine some fossils.  You may want to become a paleontologist one day…….

NEW!! INTO THE DEEP BLUE SEA (Gr. 2-5) (am only)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience the oceans as a scuba diver or navigate under the sea in a submarine?  Into the Deep Blue Sea will take you on an exciting voyage through the oceans.  How far does a whale swim and how do they find their way?  Why do different creatures live near the surface and others are way down deep?  Students will learn about coral reefs, marine animals, the rainforest of the sea….even create their own ocean wall.

LEGO TECHNOLOGY I (Gr. 4-7)

Students will build humanoid robots, roving vehicles, and mechanical beasties of increasing complexity in this new program.  They will learn now to program their ‘droids to walk, talk….and even see!!!  And it’s all done with cutting-edge robotics kits from Lego.  Take your creativity to the next level!!!  LIMITED ENROLLMENT.

NEW!! LEGO TECHNOLOGY II (Gr. 4-7)

New projects!! New robots!! New challenges!! In this follow-up to Legos I, students will create projects of increasing complexity based on the experience they gained from Legos I.  Enhance your programming and expand your creativity.  (Students must have taken Legos I.) LIMITED ENROLLMENT.

MEGA FUN MATH GAMES (Gr. 1-4)

Make your way through a crocodile shortcut --- take a walk up the number ladder --- get lost in the magic mathematical maze – Have fun playing a host of games such as Factor Bowling, Remainder Raccoon, Multiple Alley, Smelly Mountain, Gopher Golf…..and much, more.  All these games will be fun to play while they strengthen the student’s skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions and more.

NEW!! PANDORA’S PHOTO BOX (Gr. 3-7) (am only)

In this new program, students will incorporate the photos they have taken with their digital camera into a variety of art projects.  They will be making fancy frames, snow globes, magnets, t-shirts, gift boxes, etc….with the photos as the basis of their project.

PHOTOGRAPHER’S EYE: Advanced Digital Photography (Gr. 3-7)

Do you know how to take pictures?  Explore the world of professional photography and get to use professional tools like the Digital SLR’s, Adobe Photoshop and studio lighting to take your photography to the next level.  Experiment with multiple flash photography, painting with light and creating wonderful images.  (Students must have taken Digital Photography).

PUZZLING THE MIND (Gr. 1-5) (pm only)

Get your brain going with brainteasers, games, puzzles and more!  We’ll practice skills you already know and stretch your minds.  We’ll decode hidden messages using roman numerals, learn to create magic number squares, answer musical riddles, and the list goes on and on!!!  Get lots of sleep --- your brain will be busy!!

ROCKETS, MICROSCOPES & COOL CHEMISTRY (Gr. 2-7) (am only)

Become a scientist by doing experiments in a laboratory setting….chemistry experiments….making tornadoes….launching rockets….creating crystals….analyzing small life forms….experimenting with electricity….discovering how planes fly!  This is a hands-on course with activities and experiments that will be truly enlightening, educational….and very enjoyable.

SCIENCE ROCKS (Gr. 1-4)

Mix hot science with cool ideas in this class for the young scientist!  Students will make crazy straw bridges, gumdrop domes, playing card structures, bubble blowing machines, food elevators, mirror messages and a whole lot more.  Projects are all related to the areas of life science, chemistry, the five senses and the world around us.

TEE SHIRT FACTORY (Gr. 4-7) (am only)

In this graphic design class students will use their Adobe Photoshop skills to enhance their art and creativity skills as they create original tee shirts, bags, sweatshirts and more.

Did you know that different parts of your brain control different functions, and that with exercise, you can make each part of your brain stronger?  In this new class, you will be faced with hundreds of fun, rigorous and absorbing puzzles designed to stimulate your brain and keep you challenged!!

NEW!! WHAT MAKES THE WEATHER SO WEIRD? (Gr. 2-5) (am only)

Ever wonder why the clouds get so dark before a storm approaches?  How do hurricanes and tornadoes form?  Why does it rain so much in part of the country?  Why is it so cold in Alaska and Russia?  Why is it snowing in Florida?  By exploring how weather is formed and the climate patterns that are changing, students will be able to better answer these questions and more.  They will also attempt to make weather predictions based on past weather patterns they have observed from the internet.

WHEELS IN MOTION (Gr.1-7)

READING - WRITING

Anacondas, baboons, and cheetahs – Oh my!  Come explore the wonderful world of animals.  Each day, students will focus on a different animal while concentrating on a different letter of the alphabet!  The children will discover interesting facts through literature and videos, as well as create crafts based on the animal.

NEW!! AROUND THE WORLD IN 29 DAYS (Gr. 1-4)

America is known as the melting pot of the world.  Each week the students will travel to a different country in a different part of the world.  They will explore the culture, the language, their foods and their customs.  They will be able to learn about other cultures and maybe have something in common with other students in their classes.

NEW!! ART AND WRITING ADVENTURE (Gr. 2-5) (pm only)

This course takes an art and literature-based approach to writing.  Using ancient languages, such as Australian Aboriginal Art, Egyptian hieroglyphics and prehistoric caveman paintings, as well as a variety of art materials, students will expand their creativity as they learn how to create pictures that tell a story and write words to paint pictures.

AUTHOR ADVENTURES (Gr. 1-3) (pm only)

All new adventures!!! This year our students will travel through the zoo to read and write about people and their pets – dogs, cats, hampsters,  rabbits….all kinds of animals!

Explore the fun of reading in this new program just for the young reader.  Students will read a variety of books together and on their own and participate in a variety of activities revolving around the books: we will discuss such things as how a story could change if an event did not happen and how each part of the story contributes to the whole; we will also write and illustrate our own stories as well as explore other language arts enrichment activities.

ESSAY WRITING WORKSHOP (Gr. 3-7)

This course will provide students with intensive practice in writing an effective essay.  They will formulate thesis statements, practice taking effective notes, develop cohesive ideas, outline material as well as work on the importance of word choice, grammar and vocabulary development.

NEW! FROM SHELF TO SCREEN (Gr. 1-4) (pm only)

In this new course students will read popular children’s stories and then view the movie that was made based on the book.  They will become the critics by comparing and contrasting the movie to the original book.

NEW!! IMAGINARIUM (Gr. 1-3) (am only)

In this exciting, multi-sensory experience, children will interact with and explore a variety of art media and materials, poetry, stories and drama to bring their imaginations to life.  The class will encourage interest in the written word through a variety of sources, and explore two and three-dimensional art forms to connect the imagination process to all aspects of learning.

ONE MINUTE MYSTERIES – Theirs and Yours (Gr. 2-6) (am only)

Students will develop their reasoning, problem-solving and analytical thinking and writing skills by reading short mysteries, figuring out the solutions, and writing their own stories to share with classmates.

NEW!! ONCE UPON A TIME (Gr. 1-3)

Get your child’s writing juices flowing and the words right onto the page in this creative writing program for primary school  students.  In this course, young readers and writers will create their own original endings to stories they read, as well as write and illustrate their own stories. 

RACE INTO WRITING (Gr. 1-3)

Keep those pencils moving throughout the summer!  With the use of picture books and other brainstorming tools, we’ll explore the writing process.  This will be a great experience for your child to work on his/her writing fluency, while developing confidence in their work. Join in on the writing fun!

NEW! SAVING THE DAY THE HERO WAY (Gr. 3-7) (pm only)

Superman…Batman…Wolverine…..Captain America….Wonder Woman….some of the greatest cartoon hero figures in the history of comic books.  Join us to explore the history of comic books, create your own comic book heroes, adventures they will encounter and the costumes they will wear.

WRITER’S ODYSSEY (Gr. 3-7)

In this course you will brainstorm and produce short stories, poetry, non-fiction, journal entries, plays, advertisements, and even do some illustrating.  We’ll learn to dig for good ideas and turn them into great writing.  Don’t forget to bring your imagination!!

 ARTS AND CRAFTS

 

ALL THINGS PAPER (Gr. 1-4) (pm only)

Using books, journals, beads, buttons, and fibers, we will transform old books and magazines into one-of-a-kind pieces of art.  We will utilize mixed media including paper mache and other materials.

NEW!! ART AND WRITING ADVENTURE (Gr. 2-5) (pm only)

This course takes an art and literature-based approach to writing.  Using ancient languages, such as Australian Aboriginal Art, Egyptian hieroglyphics and prehistoric caveman paintings, as well as a variety of art materials, students will expand their creativity as they learn how to create pictures that tell a story and write words to paint pictures.

In this course students will create their own Artists’ books.  The books are unique and come in many different forms such as scrolls, fold-outs, boxes containing items and bound books.  Using paper, pulp, string, needles, water colors, markers, paint, scrapbook materials, and much more, students will create “books” that are intended to be works of art themselves.

There are so many seasons and holidays during the year – Thanksgiving – Valentine’s Day – Halloween – July 4th – and on and on! – and so many wonderful foods that go with those holidays.  In this new program, students will cook some of their favorite holiday foods and create crafts special to those occasions.  Hurry and sign up for this one! DEDICATED TO DRAWING (Gr. 2-7)

This course is for students with a strong interest in drawing.  Students will work to develop their technical level of drawing proficiency using a wide variety of materials such as pencils, craypas, and colored pencils.

Using various new and recycled materials we will design and construct new and original creations!  Are you bored of an old t-shirt?  We’ll use scissors and bleach pens to transform it into a cool bow tank and some headbands!  We’ll create “canvas” wall hangings by decorating and painting box lids…we’ll turn ordinary white mugs into unique personalized creations!! – And bring your own ideas, because we can do them too!

D-VINE  D-ZINE (Gr. 3-7)

Have you ever wished you could decorate your own room?  This program will help you do just that.  You’ll learn some new skills that you can use to complete tons of fun projects with which to decorate your room, such as a bulletin board, fleece pillow case, decorative beaded picture and many more!  After all, it’s your room!

NEW!! ENDLESS CREATIONS (Gr. 1-4) (pm only)

In this course students will work in various media to create three dimensional projects such as puppets, masks and figurines, using air-drying clay, paper-mache, dough and a variety of other fun to use materials.  The possibilities are endless!

EXTREME PAPER MACHE: SCULPTING ME (Gr. 1-4) (am only)

Paper mache is an amazing art form that is also eco-friendly and very affordable!  If you can think of something…you can make it out of paper mache.  Join us to explore creating 3 Dimensional pieces of yourself!  Students will learn to use materials such as plaster, paper mache, casting, and painting to create visual representations of object, people, animals, etc.  Start collecting paper!!!!

NEW!! IT ISN’T JUST FOR BRACELETS (Gr. 1-7)

In this new and sure to be popular program, students will use lanyard, string, rubberbands, etc., to create bracelets, necklaces, anklets, keychains, and a variety of other items for themselves, their family and friends.  Participants will learn a variety of stitches and patterns to use on their original creations.

MUGS, POTS & BOXES (Gr. 1-4, am only)

In this course students will have an opportunity to explore their own creative paths and express themselves through clay.  They will create clay pieces like trivets, pots and boxes as they learn the techniques and experience the pride that comes with accomplishment and creativity.

MUGS, POTS & BOXES (Gr. 3-7, pm only)

In this class for older students, participants will experience the creative process as they create functional clay pieces such as mugs, pots, bowls, vases and more as well as unique pieces to appreciate as works of art.

You can’t believe what can be made out of duct tape!!!  Not that plain gray stuff you see everywhere, but colors and patterns that can be used to make hundreds of things!!  In this new program, students will create a variety of things – bags, wallets, jewelry, belts…even clothes…all out of tape and all that can really be used!

PAINTING, PROPS AND THEATRE TRICKS (Gr. 3-7) (pm only)

Put your creativity to work designing, drawing, painting and building!  Students will create the scenery, masks, props, etc., for scenes for our end of summer performance.

This course will enhance the computer literacy, art and creativity skills of the participants.  Students will use Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and other computer programs to create their own original and printable games, cards, calendars, logos, cd covers, tee shirts and other unique projects.

PASSION FOR JEWELRY (Gr. 3-7)

Do you love jewelry?  Is there a special necklace or bracelet you would love to have?  Here is your opportunity to design your own jewelry and then make it.  In this course students will learn the techniques for making jewelry out of silver, beads, clay, wire, etc. and then create their own “original” piece.

NEW!! PURRFECT PET PROJECTS (Gr. 1-4) (pm only)

Purrfect for kids who love all kinds of pets!  Pet-themed projects bring art and animals together.  Projects include sculpting and painting using a variety of materials.

SCULPTURES R US (Gr. 1-7)

Take a look around and you will notice that sculptures are everywhere…made of everything!!!  In this course students will create 3-dimensional sculptures using a variety of media…cardboard…straw…wood, etc.

NEW!! SIMPLE BEGINNINGS; SIMPLY DIVINE (Gr. 3-7) (pm only)

This course is designed to take your jewelry making skills to the next level.  Students will learn trade secrets, like how to bend wire perfectly, use unusual materials, manipulate clay into charms, and give new life to everyday materials to make unique and simply divine jewelry.

TEE SHIRT FACTORY (Gr. 4-7) (am only)

In this graphic design class students will use their Adobe Photoshop skills to enhance their art and creativity skills as they create original tee shirts, bags, sweatshirts and more.

WONDERFUL WORLD OF CARTOONING (Gr. 2-7)

Sing and dance your way through musical numbers from some of the most well-known songs from Broadway – shows like Grease, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Addams Family…and more!

The program will culminate with a “Broadway Revue” at the end of the summer program.

Everyone loves to sing…and singing the songs from musicals developed from comics provides participants an opportunity to sing these songs while developing their singing technique and concert experience.  In this new program we will explore (and SING) songs from “Annie”, “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, “The Addams Family” and “Spiderman”, etc.

FOOTLOOSE (Gr. 2-7) 

Using a variety of popular music, learn how to express yourself with new moves that are creative and exciting.  Traditional movement (like line-dancing), hip-hop, African and Latin dance moves, combined with a little street “funk” are sure to create a unique dance experience.  All New Songs and Dances!!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!: Let’s Make Movies (Gr. 4-7)

In this exciting program students will film, write and produce original short films.  They will learn the techniques of videotaping, script writing and editing to complete a unique, interesting and informative short film that will feature their summer activities or other areas of interest.

GUITAR I (Gr. 3-7) (pm only) (6-week students ONLY)

From folk to blues, classical to rock…learn to play guitar in just six weeks!  Understand different styles of guitar and guitar playing while taking the first steps in reading music and playing chords.

GUITAR II (Gr. 3-7) (pm only) (6-week students ONLY)

If you are taking guitar lessons or have studied guitar before, this is the class for you!  Join and explore the art of guitar playing and learn chord progressions, techniques and styles from different time periods.

KID TV (Gr. 2-7)

Lights, Camera, Action!  Don’t miss the chance to be part of Summer Plus Kid TV Network.  As part of the KTVN crew you will create, write, film and even star in your very own reality show, music video, commercial, comedy skit and even a talk show!  Join us and explore your creativity in this fun and exciting class where YOU are the star!

PIANO KEYBOARDING - A (BEGINNING) (Gr. 1-7) (6-week students ONLY)

Now is your chance to gain the skills of piano keyboarding.  Students will learn to play musical selections using their own (classroom use) keyboard.  A performance will be held at the end of the summer program.

PIANO KEYBOARDING - B – (INTERM./ADVANCED) (Gr. 1-7) (6-week students ONLY)

(Students must have taken at least one year of keyboarding at Summer Plus, or lessons on their own) In this new addition to our keyboarding course selection participants will expand and enhance their knowledge and skills of basic keyboarding as they practice musical selections for their end of summer performance.  Students may bring music they are currently playing or choose from a selection of music choices offered by the teacher.

 

 

 

 

 

SPORTS AND GAMES 

 

BASEBALL (Gr. 1-4) (am only)

Play Ball! Enjoy America’s favorite summer sport. There will be instruction in fielding, throwing, hitting, base running, pitching, and general baseball strategy. (Younger students will play T-Ball.)

BASKETBALL (Gr. 1-7)

Back for another season!  Learn techniques in ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding and defensive moves.

 

CARD GAMES FOR SMART KIDS! (Gr. 2-7)

Card games are great fun – and learning new games can enhance a child’s skills! --- Games like Kings in the Corner, Crazy Eights, Hearts, Slapjack, Rolling Stone, Spoons – and many, many more!  To play a game, participants must master rules, develop mental strategies to compete successfully, understand objectives, learn routine procedures and probabilities, make long-range plans, problem solve, and deal socially with others – not to mention having fun!  In this new program students will have a blast learning and playing well-known and new card games that will also stress language and reading skills, number concepts and divergent thinking.

NEW!! CHEERLEADING 101 (Gr. 1-7) (am only)

RAH! RAH! SUMMER PLUS!  Learn the cheers, dance moves, and jumps needed  for this sport.  Fundamentals will be practiced and then performed at a cheerleading show.  Join us for this exciting activity!

CHESS: THE GAME OF KINGS (Gr. 1-7)

(Beginner and Intermediate)Learn how to play the most popular game ever invented! – where the game came from – the rules of the game – how the pieces move – and some of the important strategies for winning.  Figure out how to use all the pieces on the board to defeat your opponents in one of the most exciting and challenging games around today.  If you already know how to play, the course will give you a chance to put your skills to the test as you compete in a chess tournament with your fellow players.

Experience and participate in the essentials of track and field – stretching – long/short distance running/sprinting; long jumps, relay races and more.  We’ll have our own end of summer Olympics to see who takes home the gold!!!

Some of the oldest games in the world are still some of the most popular today!  Come learn the history, basic rules and strategies of games such as badminton, bocce ball, bean bags, horseshoes, ultimate Frisbee and kickball.  We’ll spend most of our time “on the lawn” trying out and playing these fun outdoor games.

Have a great time playing a different game or sport everyday!! Students will learn teamwork and sportsmanship while they have a great time playing such games as Kickball, Castle Ball, Soccer, Volleyball, the ever-popular “Mission Impossible”, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Wiffle Ball, handball and much much more.

OVER THE NET (Gr. 3-7)

If it’s played with a net, chances are you’ll be playing it here!! Badminton – ping pong – racquetball – volleyball….Learn the basic techniques, rules and skills needed to play these exciting games!!  No equipment needed.

PUZZLING THE MIND (Gr. 1-5) (pm only)

Get your brain going with brainteasers, games, puzzles and more!  We’ll practice skills you already know and stretch your minds.  We’ll decode hidden messages using roman numerals, learn to create magic number squares, answer musical riddles, and the list goes on and on!!!  Get lots of sleep --- your brain will be busy!!

SOCCER (Gr. 1-7)

 Increase your enjoyment of the game by improving your skills in dribbling, heading, kicking, trapping and throw ins.  Learn correct soccer techniques that will make the game more exciting and interesting.  (Repeats welcome!)

NEW! SWIMMING/BEACH (Gr. K-6)

Students will take swim lessons and participate in free swim and beach activities in this new program at the Idlewild Swimming Pool in Morris Plains.

TENNIS (Gr. 1-7)

Learn to play tennis – a sport for a lifetime.  In this popular program students will learn and practice the skills, techniques and strategies for singles and doubles play.  Students will be divided by skill level:  beginner, intermediate and advanced.  Enrollment is limited. (Intermediate – at least one year of Summer Plus tennis)

TOUCH FOOTBALL (Gr. 3-7)

Practice for the fall season in this action packed class.  Skills in throwing, catching, punting and kicking will be taught.  Exciting play off games will culminate the season.  This class is offered for boys and girls.  (Repeats welcome!)

VOLLEYBALL (Gr. 3-7)

Have fun playing the exciting team sport of volleyball!!  Containing elements of basketball, tennis and handball, the sport of volleyball is fast, exciting and challenging!!  Join us as we volley the ball throughout Summer Plus!

Dark! Light! Bittersweet! – Chocolate kisses!!! --- Chocolate fudge!!! – The wonderful world of chocolate!!  In this course students will explore CHOCOLATE: books about chocolate --- and, of course – we will be creating lots and lots and pots and pots of chocolate!!

COOKING AND CRAFTS AROUND THE CALENDAR (Gr. 1-4)

There are so many seasons and holidays during the year – Thanksgiving – Valentine’s Day – Halloween – July 4th – and on and on! – and so many wonderful foods that go with those holidays.  In this new program, students will cook some of their favorite holiday foods and create crafts special to those occasions.  Hurry and sign up for this one! Spaces will go fast!

NEW!! DESIGNER CUPCAKES (Gr. 3-7)

Everybody loves cupcakes!!!  And not only do they taste good, but they are really works of art!  In this new class, students will learn not only how to bake and ice them, but also enhancing techniques to create cupcakes with funky flavors, cool twists, and new and creative decorating detail.

INCREDIBLE EDIBLES (Gr. 1-4) (am only)

One piece of pizza + two pieces of pizza = 3 pieces of pizza!!  Students will strengthen their skills in math concepts such as counting, measuring, adding and subtracting by preparing and enjoying a wide variety of easy-to-cook foods, such as pudding, cookies, healthy snacks, etc., presentation.   Along the way, solve a few puzzles and see how much fun it is to mix cooking and math.

JUST DESSERTS (Gr. 3-7)

In this program students will prepare and enjoy a wide selection of indescribably delicious desserts and sensational sweets!  As always – what you make – you get to eat!  Nothing finishes off a good meal or adds to the joy of a day like an incredibly scrumptious dessert!

GENERAL INFORMATION:  -   Please Read Carefully –

 

 

  • All classes will meet at the Frelinghuysen Middle School, Morristown.
  • Students must bring their own lunch, snacks, and beverages  - no glass containers.
  • All out of district students must have a medical form completed by the family physician.  All students must submit a Summer Plus medical form (due June 15, 2014). Failure to return the medical form will prevent the child from beginning Summer Plus.
  • All enrollment is on a first come first served basis. The Community School reserves the right to close a class once maximum enrollment has been reached. It also reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment.      
  • No schedule changes will be made until the 4rd day of the program.  Class changes are billed at $25 per change.
  • Changes in program type from full time to half time will result in a $100 fee.
  • Please use the parking lot for dropping off and picking up children from Summer Plus.  All children should be walked into the building and to their first period class.
  • Students departing at noon will be dismissed from the front lobby of the school.
  • Supervision is not available during the lunch hour for part-time students.
  • Once you have submitted your application, you will not hear from us unless we have a problem scheduling your child for the classes you have requested.  In mid-June you will receive a packet from us with all the information you will need for the first day of Summer Plus.
  • Participation in Summer Plus and Leadership for Tomorrow is subject to all rules and regulations established by the Morris School District Community School Advisory Board. Students are expected to act in ways that demonstrate consideration for the rights and needs of others and to conform to all rules and regulations. Failure to meet these expectations for behavior may lead to restrictions, suspension, or dismissal from the program.

 

 

 

REFUND POLICY: Deposits cannot be refunded for any reason.

 

Prior to June 1:  All tuition, less $100 (6 week) or $50 (1/2 day or three-week)

After June 1:      50% of the tuition charge, less $100 (6 week) or $50 (3 week or ½ day).

After June 15:     There will be NO REFUNDS.
