Website Design with WordPress with Daniel Sofer
This course serves as a step-by-step guide to creating a beautiful web presence for photographers or other artists, using WordPress. Participants will learn how to set up and administer their WordPress site, upload photos and create posts, personalize the look using WordPress themes, and much more. By the end of this course, students will have their own fully functional WordPress website.
Day One: Overview and Installation
Day One: Theming Your Site, Part I
Students will personalize the presentation of their site using WordPress Themes.
Day One: Organizing Your Site
Organizing content: posts vs. static pages, navigation, widgets & plugins, categories and tags.
Day Two: Photo Galleries
Discussion on some of the available gallery plug-ins and how to install one.
Day Two: Theming Your Site, Part II
Students will get deeper into the look and feel of their sites. Topics include typography, Adobe edge fonts, Google webfonts and mobile styles.
Day Two: Going Live
Students will learn how to acquire a domain name and configure their site to recognize it. Further discussion includes Search Engine Optimization (SEO), comments and Spam; upgrades and backup.
The course includes three months of hosting at WPEngine.com, one of the premiere WordPress hosting companies, a $90 value. After the course, you will have the option to export your site to another WordPress host or continue with WPEngine.

Enrollment limit: 12 students
Skill/Experience level: Photoshop and FTP experience is helpful. Students should be comfortable working with the Mac OS X operating system.
