EARLY BIRD SALE!!
SAVE 20% ON THE TUITION!!
Join Joe McNally for a complete weekend of flash photography! Participants will be involved with camera and flash techniques that are both basic and advanced, the use of color and light to tell a story, the overall management of light on location and notions of how to choose a quality of light that is appropriate to the subject.
After Friday evening's orientation session, students will spend Saturday learning lighting fast and well on location. The day starts with examples, shot both in the studio and outside in natural light. There will be demonstration using small flash techniques, as well as a light shapers and the appropriate choice of light shapers for the task at hand. The idea of blending light, making flash appear natural in the midst of an ambient condition, using color and white balance, and exposure ratios to create portraits that are as effective as they are simple is the theme of the day. Advanced strategies, such using multiple speed lights through a single diffuser or light shaper, will be explored as well.
After lunch (and some additional caffeine) participants will hit the streets in teams, each team with a model in tow, exploring and using to our advantage one of the funkiest and most historic areas of the LA metro area - Hollywood. This shooting session continues right into the evening as the light starts changing, and different gelling and color balancing strategies evolve and come into play. Overnight, editing!
On Sunday, we will review and critique of the previous day's efforts. Then, flash in the studio! Various models and sets will be employed, and teams can rotate with different gear and multiple flash units to achieve different looks to their lighting. By the end of the weekend, participants will feel much more comfortable and versatile in their use of flash on-location and in-studio, both in situations that demand control, and in situations out on the street that are more off the cuff and improvisational. All in all, a complete weekend of flash photography!
Please note that Saturday's location shoot and Sunday's studio shoot may be interchangeable, depending on variable factors such as the weather, etc.
