This six-week workshop is specifically designed to introduce participants to Photoshop for photographers. Techniques covered will allow students to develop a non-destructive workflow in the digital darkroom. Photoshop’s comprehensive tools will be explored from a photographer’s point-of-view and geared towards achieving the creative vision of the image-maker. Various topics will be discussed such as file management, tool usage, color balance, color conversions, basic retouching and understanding file types. Digital file input will also be explained, providing students with a solid foundation from which they can utilize Photoshop’s capabilities to their maximum benefit. Other topics covered will include basic color correction, black and white conversions, compositing, dodging and burning, and skin retouching.
After completing this course, participants are encouraged to learn more of Photoshop's capabilities by enrolling in Adobe Photoshop II.
Students are required to bring their own laptop loaded with at least Photoshop CS2, preferably CS3 or CS4, and a mouse or graphics tablet. If necessary, a free 30-day trial version of Photoshop can be installed by visiting www.adobe.com/downloads.
