A Shooting Series: The Genres of Photography
This new series of five workshops — taught by five different instructors — explores the major themes of photography: portraiture, landscape, the nude, still life and documentary. Workshop participants can sign up for any or all of the five in the series.
Each workshop meets three times, with the instructor showing work and discussing approaches of both historic and contemporary photographers within that particular genre. Weeks one and two will have shooting assignments that will be critiqued the following week. One assignment may be to emulate an inspirational photographer. Another assignment may be to use an unfamiliar camera such as a toy camera,a 4x5 view camera, or a phone camera in search of your own point of view. Each instructor will use the same format in terms of lecture, assignment, and critique format, however, each will bring his or her own uniqueness, individual knowledge, talent, and expertise to his or her respective genre.
The series is meant to educate participants about historic and contemporary photographers and to inspire you to photograph with a more discerning eye.
