Online Workshops are delivered through our learning management system, Blackboard. They are led by a facilitator and have specific start and end dates. Workshops include readings, activities, discussions or other collaborative assignments and a final product - usually a lesson plan. You have interactions with your facilitator and other participants through discussion boards, email, telephone, chat, etc. Assignments are due by specific dates every week, but you do not log in or "attend" class at any specific time; you access the course and complete your work at your convenience as long as you meet the due dates. Twenty-four hours prior to the course start date, those that registered receive course access information via email so they may begin work.
Occasionally the workshop facilitator may include a live session that does occur on a specific date and time via IdahoLive. If you are unable to attend the live session, it is recorded so you can view it at your convenience. (For more about IdahoLive see Online Webinars below.)
Most workshops are offered for Professional Development credits through our partner universities. Course descriptions identify which workshops are available for credit. PD credit costs $60 (this is in addition to your workshop registration fee) and is payable to your chosen university. Information on how to sign up for and pay for credit is located inside each workshop.
Online tutorials are also delivered through Blackboard. They do not have a facilitator and are entirely self-paced. Tutorials include readings, interactive lessons, activities and a final product. You can complete your work over a few days or over several weeks as long as you finish by the end of the designated term; with 24/7 course access you can fit your learning into your own schedule.
If you register before the term starts, you will not receive course access information until 24 hours prior to the term start date. If you register after the term starts, you will receive course access information within 6 business days of your registration date. (You can register up to 4 weeks past the term start date.) All course access information is sent via email.

PD credit costs $60 (this is in addition to your tutorial registration fee) and is payable to your chosen university. Information on how to sign up for and pay for credit is located inside each workshop.
Since tutorials do not have a facilitator, you keep a Learning Log as you move through the tutorial. By the end date of the term, you submit your Log and your Final Product to a designated Final Product Reviewer. This Reviewer will issue a grade of Pass or Fail and submit the grade to your chosen universit.
Technical requirements for workshops and tutorials can be found here.
Online Webinars
Online webinars are live online seminars delivered through IdahoLive, IdahoPD's live virtual classroom. IdahoLive allows facilitators and participants to meet in real time via the Internet. Facilitators and participants work together and communicate using text chat, audio, video and other tools. Most webinars are FREE.
Our webinars are collaborative and interactive and may include instant polling, file sharing, ability to "write" on the screen using an electronic whiteboard, group breakout sessions, etc. Webinars are usually scheduled to last 30 - 90 minutes and occur on a specific scheduled date and time. Once you register, you receive an email confirmation that includes information on how to access your webinar.
Technical requirements include a computer with Internet connection, speakers and a keyboard for communication. A telephone or microphone are optional if you wish to speak to the facilitator and other participants.
Blended Courses
Blended learning combines the best of online and live classroom learning. Some sessions take place face-to-face as described below and some occur online as described above in Online Workshops & Tutorials and Online Webinars. Blended courses take many forms depending on the amount of time spent online and the type of online interaction - either facilitated or non-facilitated.
Locations and times for the online and face-to-face portions of blended courses will vary and are clearly identified in the "Additional Information" section of a course description.
Qualifying blended courses offer the opportunity to sign up for Professional Development credits through our partner universities. Course descriptions identify which blended courses are available for credit. Information on how to sign up for and pay for credit is located inside the online portion of each blended course.
Face-to-face Courses
Face-to-Face learning takes place in the traditional live classroom. This is the type of learning that most of us are used to. Locations will vary throughout the state by course and are clearly identified in the "Additional Information" section of a course description.
Qualifying face-to-face courses offer the opportunity to sign up for Professional Development credits through our partner universities. Course descriptions identify which face-to-face courses are available for credit. Information on how to sign up for and pay for credit is available the first day of class.
Professional development credits or CEUs are available for most workshops and tutorials through the universities listed below. The course description will indicate if credit is available for a particular course. For questions or to apply for credit (AFTER YOUR ENROLLMENT IS CONFIRMED through IdahoPD) refer to this document: Professional Development Credit Info, or contact your chosen university:
