 Instructor Description:

A native of Washington, DC, Michele began working in kilnformed and lampworked glass in 2002 and has studied with many acclaimed glass artists in the US and Europe.  She joined the Art Glass Center as a Resident Artist in September 2010.  Michele also serves as a Director for the National Capital Art Glass Guild.  In 2005 she established Trilogy Glass ARt to explore and create both functional and non-functional glass art.  She has a BS in Physics from UMBC and an MS in Systems Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University.

I have been attracted to glass for what seems like "forever."  At first, savoring, wondering, and collecting, and now, learning, experimenting, and creating.  My work tends to focus on expressions of our natural world, its beauty and fragility, its promise and problems.  This focus was not pre-planned but rather more evolutionary, and, for now, is both stimulating and satisfying to me.  I use glass in different forms and ways, letting the message drive the choice of technique, from light-hearted landscape abstractions to detailed illustrations of endangered species.  For me, glass is a wondrous artistic tool.  It is both the controller, and yet, controllable, setting limits, conditions, properties, which, when understood and applied correctly, allow me much latitude in form and possibility of expression.  I have come to realize that while developing this understanding may require a lifetime, pursuit of it is a joy and marries well with my scientific background.
