Leanne Purkis, of Magic Art Studio, caught the “glass bug” in the 90's when she learned the art of stained glass. As she honed that craft she was lured by the beauty of “hot” glass. She bought a small kiln and taught herself how to fuse glass through reading and experimentation. She began dabbling in glass bead making in 2000 using the hot head torch and fiber blankets to cool her beads. She believes there is nothing more exciting than mixing colors and manipulating hot glass.
In 2005 she decided to leave the corporate world and open Magic Glass Studio in Lambertville, NJ. This was an open studio where both children and adults could visit to learn about and create their own glass fusing projects. During 2005 she also began teaching bead making hand blown glass ornaments and fusing in many of the area community schools and privately at various locations. In August 2007 she decided to take Magic Glass mobile, she closed the Lambertville location and travels to many different venues where she runs workshops, being able to go into people’s homes, churches, schools, etc makes this much more accessible to people.
Leanne resides in Bucks county PA with her 4 wonderful cats. She finds much of her inspiration in nature she enjoys hiking, kayaking and snorkeling.
There is nothing more gratifying for Leanne than passing the “glass bug” on to others and seeing that light in their eyes.
