Maureen Peters is a graphic artist, for the last 40 years specializing in calligraphy and pen and ink renderings. At the school of Sacred Arts NYC among others, she learned the process of the medieval illuminators palette, color derived from animal, vegetables and minerals using medieval techniques along with the structure of the letter and Manuscript restoration. Pen and ink is Maureen’s passion.
Maureen is currently teaching calligraphy and lettering arts at East Coast Calligraphy in Collingswood, Medford Artery, Camden Fireworks, Made Artisans Market, New Jersey Art Educators/Artists Workshops of Southern NJ and local libraries and Historical Societies thru out the tri state area. She is currently working with a residency program thru Wheaton Arts, Arts and Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts to bring calligraphy and manuscript making into NJ Public School system, Teaching in Bridgeton, Vineland and Millville schools in the 2016-2019 school year. Her passion stems from a healing arts aspect of lettering. Learning to slow down and enjoy the process. Creating from a mindful place and creating harmony thru color and positive words.
She is past president of Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society as well as the owner of Letterworks Art Studio
Maureen’s work can be found in numerous public and private collections. She has been published in several major magazines and has written a book, Beginners Calligraphy for Stackpole Publishing/ Rowman Littlefield.. She is a featured Artist at Elfreth’s Alley in Old City Philadelphia with Alley Scapes and Woodbury Old City Restoration to help raise money and awareness of historical buildings.
