Lois Anderson started her business, Magnolia Hill Re-Creations, in 2010 as a way to marry her love of sewing and concern for the environment.  She was previously an environmental consultant until a failed back surgery ended her career.  Taught by her mother and a junior high school Home Economics class, Lois has been sewing and doing embroidery since grade school.  She is currently a member of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals (ASDP) and President of the New Jersey Chapter.

Her sewing business includes custom clothing, alterations, home décor, quilting, mending and repairs, and embellishments (e.g., beading, embroidery), in addition to giving beginner and intermediate sewing lessons.  Her favorite projects involve repurposing dull or out-of-style clothing and fabrics into modern, useful clothing, accessories, or home décor items like tablecloths, table runners, pillows, and quilts.  Lois also uses her sewing skills to benefit several charity projects every year.  Such projects have included the Summit Medical Foundation T-caps Program, Cinderella’s Closet, Dress for Success, Little Dresses for Africa, and Clinton Presbyterian Church’s Hats and Scarves for the Homeless.

Lois has been providing private sewing lessons since beginning her company since she believes in sharing her passion for sewing.  She also occasionally presents sewing workshops to her colleagues in the NJ Chapter of ASDP.  Lois previously substitute–taught for the Madison Adult School’s Open Sewing Class on several occasions for the previous instructor.  She has been the regular instructor for the Get to Know Your Sewing Machine class and Open Sewing class since Spring 2018.
